Touring China Through Literature: Pavilions, Terraces and Towers

Words trace the beauty of buildings and the ingenuity behind them; footsteps measure carved beams and painted rafters, and feel the old rhythms still alive today.

This article was originally written in Traditional Chinese. The English translation is provided for reference only.

Writers in imperial China often watched the moon and poured out their feelings from a pavilion, a terrace or an upper storey, leaving behind works that have lasted for centuries. In their day these structures were not merely buildings, but places of the spirit where a writer could lodge his deepest feelings.
